Empowering Rockford Through Jobs Plus

In Rockford, countless individuals are striving to create better lives for themselves and their families. Many residents have the skills, determination, and motivation to succeed but face barriers to meaningful employment whether it’s a lack of connections, limited access to resources, or uncertainty about where to begin. 

For many in our community, the challenge isn’t the lack of talent, it’s the lack of access. Without the right guidance and networking opportunities, many qualified individuals are left behind, and local organizations miss out on incredible potential.

Enter the Jobs Plus Program, a beacon of empowerment led by the Rockford Housing Authority (RHA). Through consistent career-building efforts, workshops, and partnerships, Jobs Plus serves as a trusted guide empowering individuals to find meaningful employment while fostering long-term financial independence.

On November 5, 2025, from 11 AM to 2 PM, the RHA’s Jobs Plus team brought this mission to life at the Jobs Plus Hiring Event. The event welcomed over 120 attendees and featured numerous partnering organizations, each dedicated to creating pathways to employment and community growth.

The event was hosted by Nick Bowers, Program Manager for Jobs Plus, whose leadership ensured everything ran smoothly and purposefully. Alongside him, Megan Chism, Jobs Plus Employment Specialist, played a key role in coordinating partners, supporting attendees, and ensuring the event’s success. Together, their dedication turned this event into an empowering experience for both job seekers and employers.

Job seekers arrived eager to learn, connect, and apply and they did just that. Many attendees applied for jobs on the spot, engaged in one-on-one networking sessions, and built relationships with local employers and service providers. The energy in the room was one of hope, collaboration, and opportunity.

The 2025 Jobs Plus Hiring Event proved what’s possible when people come together for a shared purpose. Attendees left with not only applications submitted but also newfound confidence, connections, and direction. Employers discovered talented candidates ready to make an impact.
