For many residents across Rockford Housing Authority sites, support doesn’t always begin with a form or a referral. Often, it begins with a conversation.
A knock on the door. A phone call returned. A familiar face that listens.
That’s where Resident Support Specialists (RSS) like Yolanda Anderson and Darrell Lewis come in. As RSS staff serving RHA sites, they are often the first point of contact for residents who need help navigating challenges big or small that impact their housing stability and overall well-being.
Every day looks different.
Some days, residents reach out because they’re confused about paperwork or need help understanding next steps. Other days, the need is more personal: a crisis, a life transition, or simply someone to listen and help problem-solve. Yolanda and Darrell meet residents with patience, respect, and empathy, recognizing that no two situations are the same.
Yolanda Anderson is known for her compassionate approach and her ability to build trust with residents. She takes the time to understand individual circumstances and ensures residents feel heard and supported.Â
Darrell Lewis brings the same dedication, along with a strong focus on expanding access to health resources. Most recently, Darrell helped connect residents at Park Terrace, Buckeye, Summit Green, and Midvale with OSF Mobile, making it possible for healthcare services to come directly to RHA sites. Through this partnership, residents can receive full-body health checkups on-site, along with take-home wellness kits that allow them to monitor conditions like diabetes and heart rhythm at home.
Together, Yolanda and Darrell serve as a bridge connecting residents to solutions while reinforcing stability within RHA communities. When residents know there is someone they can turn to, challenges feel more manageable. Issues are addressed earlier, communication improves, and residents are better positioned to remain stably housed while working toward their personal goals.
Without the support of Resident Support Specialists, many residents would be left navigating complex systems on their own. With Yolanda and Darrell’s guidance, residents gain clarity, connection, and confidence.
