YouthBuild Opportunity

Rockford Housing Authority has applied for the U.S. Department of Labor YouthBuild Grant, a program designed to provide education, job training, and leadership development opportunities for young people while strengthening communities.

Across Rockford, many young people between the ages of 16 and 24 are searching for direction, opportunity, and support. Some have left school early, while others face barriers to employment, stable housing, or career development. These youth are motivated to succeed but often lack access to the education, training, and mentorship needed to build a strong future. To help address these challenges,

Without access to meaningful education and workforce pathways, many young people struggle to find stable employment or long-term career opportunities. Limited access to training, credentials, and mentorship can prevent them from reaching their full potential and contributing to their communities.

At the same time, communities benefit when young residents are empowered with skills, confidence, and purpose.

Rockford Housing Authority is committed to supporting residents and strengthening communities through opportunity, education, and workforce development. As an organization focused on housing stability and community growth, RHA understands the challenges youth face and works to create programs that open doors for long-term success.

To expand these opportunities, RHA has applied for the U.S. Department of Labor YouthBuild Grant.

If awarded, the YouthBuild program would provide a structured pathway for youth to gain education, job skills, and leadership experience.

Participants would have opportunities to earn a high school diploma or GED, receive workforce training in high-demand industries such as construction, manufacturing, information technology, and healthcare, and gain hands-on experience by helping build or rehabilitate affordable housing and community projects.

Through programs like YouthBuild, young people gain education, job skills, and leadership experience that prepare them for long-term success. Participants can enter apprenticeships, secure employment, and contribute to community development projects that improve neighborhoods across Rockford.

Without programs that support youth development, many young people may continue to face barriers to education and employment. Investing in opportunities like YouthBuild helps ensure that youth have the guidance, resources, and pathways they need to build a brighter future.
