Finding Your Next Step

There are moments when everything feels uncertain. You might be trying to figure out your next step whether it’s finding a job, continuing your education, improving your financial situation, or simply getting through a challenging time. You want to move forward, but you’re not always sure where to begin or who to trust for guidance.

Many residents face this exact situation. You’re motivated, capable, and ready for something better, but without clear direction, it can feel like you’re standing still. You may have questions, ideas, or even goals in mind but no clear path to turn those into action.

The hardest part is not always the goal, it’s knowing how to start. When you don’t have access to the right information or support system, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. You might not know what programs exist, who to talk to, or how to access opportunities that could truly change your situation.

This lack of direction can lead to missed opportunities. Job training programs, financial support, education resources, and community services are available but without a clear entry point, they can feel out of reach. Over time, this uncertainty can turn into frustration, making it even harder to take that first step forward.

That’s where Rockford Housing Authority comes in not just as a housing provider, but as a partner in your journey. Through the ROSS (Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency) program, RHA is here to guide you with understanding, experience, and real solutions.

The ROSS team Amy Byrd, ROSS Program Manager, and Breanna Bailey, ROSS Coordinator, are built to listen first. They take the time to understand your situation, your challenges, and your goals. You are not treated like a number, you are seen as an individual with potential. With that understanding, the team connects you to resources that are designed specifically to support your growth and success.

Getting started is easier than you might think. The ROSS referral process is designed to remove confusion and give you a clear, simple path forward:

First, reach out. This can be as simple as speaking with your property manager or any RHA staff member and letting them know you’re interested in support.

Next, request a referral to the ROSS program. This step connects you directly with a Service Coordinator who is dedicated to helping residents navigate opportunities.

Then, meet with your ROSS Service Coordinator. This conversation is focused on your goals, your needs, and what success looks like in your life.

Finally, get connected. Whether it’s employment programs, financial coaching, education, childcare resources, or supportive services, you’ll be guided toward opportunities that match your goals.

Each step is designed to move you from uncertainty to clarity.

If you’ve been feeling unsure about your next step, now is the time to act. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Come in and talk to us. and ask about a ROSS referral. One conversation can change the direction of your journey.
