RHA DIRECTORS SPOTLIGHT GRAND PRIZE WINNERS 2020

RHA celebrated at their annual employee holiday party, virtually via zoom. During the party, the results for the Directors Spotlight Grand Prize Winners were announced.  These awards are the objective of the Directors spotlight, that was introduced in 2020, for the participation of all employees throughout the year, to recognize fellow workers going above and beyond their duties, exhibiting a willingness to help out, not only with coworkers, but residents, and the community they serve. Each month, the employees are asked to nominate their fellow workers for acts observed throughout the month.

Leanna has been with the Rockford Housing Authority since October 2018. Leanna has always gone above and beyond for the finance team. As a result of Leanna’s hard work and dedication Leanna was promoted to Accounting Manager in May, 2022 and has moved gracefully into her new position in finance.

“Even at her busiest of times, she stops what she is doing to help out the team.” Sheila Suggs. Leanna is always teaching staff new things and helps the finance department become more efficient. Her time and patience is a virtue.
Leanna demonstrates the agency’s core values through her knowledge and work ethics. She does extensive research on tasks that have been put in front of her. If she doesn’t know the answer she will find the answer. Leanna is a great asset for the team and we have all learned so much from her.

Mr. Jeff Jaworowski has been a valued team member of the Rockford Housing Authority for nearly 25 years. Throughout the years, Jeff has been an integral part of our maintenance team and is currently assigned to our Park Terrace and Low Rise developments as the maintenance aide.

As the maintenance aide assigned to this development, Jeff is responsible for the overall maintenance of all locations and ensuring that other maintenance members perform to the best of their ability and provide a level of service to our residents, directly or indirectly, that is second to none.

Peer and property Brian Dugan recently stated, “ Over the years of experience, he has gained a lot of knowledge and skill which provides a Sage-like advisor to the Management team and a guidebook for the newer members of the Maintenance teams.

The winner of the July Director’s Spotlight goes to Ms. Courtney Williams! Courtney currently performs the role of an Occupancy Specialist for our HCV (Housing Choice Voucher) department. Courtney’s commitment to ensuring the team succeeds with all tasks, duties, and projects and her willingness to excel above and beyond daily tasks, especially when the workload is relentless, speaks to both her inner strengths and work ethic as an Occupancy Specialist. 

Ms. Rosalind Gulley states, “Courtney could not believe her assigned workload when she first started the job, which was the process of stacks of recertifications every day from everyone’s caseload until we got caught up. The task felt endless and lasted her about 3 – 4 months, which was a lot to handle & I know she felt like giving up. But she hung in there, not realizing her strength as an Occupancy Specialist. Her personality and honesty are a true blessing to be desired, and I admire her.”

 

 

 

 

Courtney’s respectful and caring nature toward all she may come into contact with exemplifies one of RHA’s underlying core values, professionalism. With changes occurring spontaneously and with little to no warning, Courtney’s ability to self-lead and safeguard our most valuable asset, our clients, is more valuable than ever. Mr. Troy Hadie has been with the Rockford Housing Authority for three decades.  Throughout his career, he has experienced years of changes in the public housing industry and remains dedicated to the mission & vision of RHA.   Mr. Troy has assisted countless families in maintaining a quality home. 

His dedication, consistency, and willingness to assist our residents are traits deserving of the Director’s Spotlight Award for June 2022.  He exhibits excellence in his daily duties and is willing to take the necessary steps to ensure the success of the developments and assist colleagues or residents in need.

Mr. Carandus Brown states, “Troy demonstrates the agency’s core values by his willingness to take care of concerns at that very moment. He goes the extra distance to solve the problem”.

RHA DIRECTORS SPOTLIGHT MAY 2022

Ms. Terry Milton has only been a part of the Rockford Housing Authority team for under a year. During this short time, Terry has made a tremendous impact in the area of relocation for our clients. Always willing to go the extra mile, Terry accommodates everyone on her caseload & the landlords by working around their schedules, which means she comes in hours early & stays hours late. As she always does, Terry has taken relocation efforts a step above by intentionally searching for landlords who are not yet registered in our Housing Choice Voucher program. She understands the importance of ensuring clients have options in securing a suitable home that meets the needs of their families.

 

 

Carandus Brown, Human Service Manager states, “Terry has been committed to learning all aspects of her job to provide the best services possible to residents. She is at work every day in the morning at 7:15 am wanting to discuss the overview of her day”. We are excited to have Terry as a member of the RHA Team, and we look forward to her future in this industry. Terry’s diligence and detailed approach towards work has set a benchmark for the rest of the workforce. Great Job Ms. Terry!!

RHA DIRECTORS SPOTLIGHT APRIL 2022

For almost five years, Ms. Diane Rosin has been an integral team member of our finance department. She has advanced her career from a finance clerk to an accountant. Ms. Rosin never hesitates to hold vendors, contractors, and staff accountable regarding program consistency and always keeps a watchful eye on invoice integrity, ensuring that expenditures are legitimate.

Always a team player, Diane ensures that all new staff members receive the training and support necessary to succeed in their roles and makes herself available to assist. Both Ms. Sheila Sneath and Carandus Brown recognize this quality within Diane, and Sheila states, “We can call on her anytime for questions, and she keeps her door open for us.” While Carandus states, “she is always consistent with offering help at any time.” 

Most recently, Diane dropped what she was doing to assist Mr. Brown with reimbursement for out of pocket expenses for another team member. Within minutes, Diane was able to provide the direction necessary to reimburse the team member before the end of business that very day.

Diane is a natural leader and demonstrates daily her loyalty and dedication to our team and our agency. We are excited to see what her future holds.

 

RHA DIRECTORS SPOTLIGHT FEBRUARY 2022

Ms. Marilyn Taylor has been with the Rockford Housing Authority for more than four years and is considered a valued team member with the Rockford Housing Authority.  During her time here, she has served as an Assistant Property Manager working within our high and low rise developments.  Having assisted several different Property Managers in the past three years, Marilyn has played an integral part in allowing for and assisting in a smooth transition process.  “Marilyn’s quality of work and determination to provide accountable and professional property management…has allowed for a seamless transition”, stated Brian Dugan, Property Manager of Park Terrace and the Low Rise developments.

Marilyn performs her duties, displaying a caring and professional attitude in all that she does.  Her continued professionalism and reliability have made a considerable impact on the agency and those we serve.  While in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Taylor received a call from a resident regarding a managment issue.  During the call, Marilyn noticed that the resident continued coughing uncontrollably.  Understanding that the resident was experiencing difficulties with breathing, she kept the resident on the line while she immediately used another phone to call 911.  She remained on the line with the resident, attempting to keep him calm and catch his breath, until paramedics arrived.  He was then transported and admitted to the hospital for extensive treatment.  The resident and his family graciously thanked Marilyn for her caring act, and stated that her actions were believed to be considered life saving. 

Ms. Taylor’s dedication and initiative have demonstrated her outstanding character and caring nature.  Her motivation and willingness to assist her residents are all traits that make her deserving of the Director’s Spotlight Award for February 2022.

Congratulations to Ms. Martha DeLuna! 

Since joining the RHA Team just over 6 months ago, Ms. Martha DeLuna has been a valued team member with the Rockford Housing Authority (RHA).  Martha is truly an integral part of our agency, serving as receptionist, she is the first contact for all who visit our main office, she is truly the face of RHA.  She is a committed employee whose attention to detail is greatly appreciated.  

As stated by many of her peers, Martha provides outstanding customer service on a daily basis.  Ms. Rosalind Gulley said it best “She handles many different challenges daily, whether it be by phone or in-person with such professionalism”.  Serving as the receptionist is anything but a simple task and comes with numerous challenges as well as an increased understanding of the various agency departments and programing. 

 

Appreciation for her role is most evident by anyone who has had to perform her regular duties, even for a brief moment.  In spite of this, Martha is always willing to lend a helping hand to her fellow colleagues.  “She has never declined to help any of her co-workers.  She has transformed the office with her organizational skills which is a crucial element to a successful business.  We [staff] can all find what we need in the office, and should we need to fill in at the receptionist area, we can do so with confidence”, stated Ms. Nichole Bourbon, HCV Occupancy Specialist. 

Martha’s dedication and initiative have demonstrated outstanding character.  Her motivation and willingness to assist our residents and fellow staff are all traits that make her most deserving of the Director’s Spotlight Award for January 2022.

Congratulations to Ms. Michaela Harris!

RHA understands that morale makes a tangible difference in employees’ lives, and the bottom line with that being said; building employee engagement programs is necessary and vital.

 When the opportunity presented itself, our RHA Section 3 Compliance Manager, Michaela Harris, didn’t hesitate to answer the call as being the Chair of the RHA Appreciation & Recreational Committee.

“If you were to look up the definition of ‘professional’ in Webster’s dictionary, you would find Michaela’s picture right next to that definition. A staff member and team player on multiple levels, she represents RHA to our fullest potential” states Alex Keedi, Jobs Plus Program Manager.

Michaela’s “can do” attitude is contagious, and it really embodies our agency’s core values & principles. The way she motivates and leads members of the committees is impressive and has proven valuable in keeping our company events running smoothly even through challenging times.

Because of Michaelas innovative ideas and passion for the Recreation & Appreciation committee, the agency didn’t miss a beat in this pandemic with annual events such as the holiday celebration & Company Picnic. We were able to still come together creatively & have a great time. 

Michaela is always on the lookout for new opportunities & adventures within her role as Chair of both committees, and in doing so, it keeps our agency’s morale at an all-time high & moving forward.

She has also taken on the role of being one of four instructors for RHA’s award-winning job readiness program, the Lifeforce Development Institute.

Michaela has taken Section 3 to the next level & has recently sat on the National PHADA 2021 Virtual Annual Convention & Exhibition Section 3 Roundtable panel.

Each of the four years of service Michaela has given this organization has been exceptional. It’s been amazing having someone as committed & passionate as Michaela on our team.

She is always going above and beyond the call of duty. Her work and dedication are outstanding & are appreciated by many.

Congratulations to Mr. Vince Tarara!

Mr. Vince Tarara has been a respected team member with the Rockford Housing Authority (RHA) for nearly four (4) years. Vince is an essential part of our agency, currently serving as the Maintenance Supervisor, overseeing the day-to-day maintenance operations and preventative maintenance procedures throughout the RHA portfolio. Since joining the RHA team, Vince has hit the ground running. He initially began his career at the RHA as a Maintenance Trainee and was selected by RHA Maintenance Leadership and management for accelerated advancement within his first year in service.

Mr. Tarara assisted our Procurement and Human Services teams throughout November. Taking the lead to ensure that all equipment and workforce were on hand to properly install the Employment and Empowerment Raydiant screens providing programmatic information and job/career attainment information to our residents and guests throughout our agency.

Mr. Tarara was nominated for the Director’s Spotlight by Ms. Linda Dorsey-Tillman for his dedication to our agency’s vision, mission, and core values. As stated in the nomination, “the core values he [Vince] displays daily is leadership, integrity, respectful, consistent, caring, and professional, which makes him a worthy recipient of the Director’s Spotlight.

Congratulations to Ms. Tanya Woody!

Ms. Tanya Woody has been a valued team member with the Rockford Housing Authority (RHA) for more than four years. Tanya is an integral part of our agency, serving as a janitress she prepares units for occupancy.  She is a committed employee whose attention to detail is greatly appreciated.  Tanya exhibits consistency in her daily duties and is willing to take the necessary steps to ensure that our residents feel at home. 

In October, Tanya saw there was a need to uplift the residents of Park Terrace. She did so by rearranging the lobby furniture and hanging decorations for all to see during the Halloween season.

Ms. Linda Dorsey-Tillman, Procurement Manager for the RHA said it best by stating “A portion of our mission statement says that responsible and respectful people deserve the opportunity to contribute to attain a comfortable quality home and neighborhood that all can have pride in.  I know the residents of Park Terrace are happy for the decorations.”

Tanya’s actions presented an uplifting spirit to the residents of Park Terrace through her dedication and display of caring for our residents.

Congratulations to Ms. Linda Theus! 

Linda Theus has been with Rockford Housing Authority for more than 3 years serving as a Janitress within our Maintenance Department. During her time here, Linda has shown that she is extremely dedicated to meeting both the RHA standard for housing quality as well as the quality of life for RHA residents.

Linda works tirelessly to clean units in order to provide a respectable home for RHA’s newest residents. She is enthusiastic, energetic, and cheerful in helping to get those resident’s new home ready for move in. These efforts are evident by her endless dedication and willingness to go above and beyond, often volunteering to work overtime as needed, which benefits our staff, residents, and the community as a whole.

Congratulations to Mr. Alex Keedi! 

Ever since Mr. Alex Keedi came on board to the Rockford Housing Authority, he has hit the ground running.  Alex has taken the Job Plus Initiative and created a program that caters to the needs and wants of the Rockford Housing Authority Residents. 

The Jobs Plus Initiative launches in 2022 and already Alex has residents excited and jumping at the bit to enroll their families into the program.

Alex’s teamwork, enthusiasm, and support on various projects are such valuable contributions. Alex’s passion is so contagious that it sparks motivation in those he works beside. His exceptional skills and expertise added to the RHA Human Services team will indeed progress the department to new heights!

It is impossible for Alex’s work to go unnoticed because of the emails and calls from coworkers, residents & community partners that express how great it is to work with Mr. Alex Keedi.

Alex has the creativity and determination to do whatever it takes to help residents achieve extraordinary levels of success.

Ms. Rosalind Gulley has been with the Rockford Housing Authority for more than seven years. During her time here, Roz has served in several classifications working in the LIPH and HCV departments. Over two years ago, she was selected to serve as the Lead Occupancy Specialist with our HCV department. She provides training and acts as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operations to assist her peers and better serve the clients who participate in the various HCV programs. According to Mrs. Stephanie Penix, “She has a vast knowledge of her job and trains and works well with staff.”

Roz routinely accepts assignments, some extremely challenging, without complaint. Her continued professionalism and integrity have made a considerable impact on the agency and those we serve. As stated by Mrs. Michaela Harris, “Her knowledge and expertise make her the “go-to” for questions and training. Each time I have witnessed her interacting with a client or employee, she does so with the utmost professionalism”.

Mr. Robert Lunsford has been with the Rockford Housing Authority for more than 4 years. During his time with the RHA, Rob has served RHA residents at various sites throughout the portfolio. He consistently provides maintenance with the utmost care and proficiency. Robert has made a considerable and measurable impact on our agency’s assets, reliability, and home quality standards. His efforts are evident by his endless resourcefulness, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond, all of which benefit our staff, residents, and community.

Advancing through the RHA maintenance department ranks, Rob has reached the level of “Maintenance Aide.” Rob arrives to work every morning energetic, happy, prepared and organized. “Rob is extremely thorough and concise with describing maintenance issues and what it will take to fix it,” States Brian Dugan, Assistant Property Manager of Scattered Sites/Bridge Rockford. He accepts every challenge each day regardless of its complexity without complaint. He regularly displays leadership through his efforts in training and mentoring trainees. Mrs. Sybil Mueller has been with the Rockford Housing Authority for nearly 12 years. During her time here, Sybil has progressed through the ranks, currently serving as the Housing Choice Voucher Programs Manager. She is extremely committed to our mission, vision, and values. Sybil is hardworking and always willing to assist her fellow staff. “Sybil excels at every position she has held within the Rockford Housing Authority.”

As acknowledged by both peers and subordinates, Sybil “always seems to make her department run smoothly and is always friendly and confident, no matter what her department is facing” even while in the face of a crisis. Sybil is “most helpful and so knowledgeable”, she exemplifies RHA’s core values which is evident in her caring, respectful nature, as well as the professional leadership of her department.

She genuinely embodies the company’s spirit and our core values in everything she does, and she inspires us all to do the same!

Throughout her 4 years at RHA, Diane has worn many different hats within the finance department. From Accounts Payable to Tenant Accounts Receivable and back to Accounts Payable where she took the lead in the implementation of AvidExhange software that helps the agency automate our payables. No matter what her responsibilities, she has been very reliable and dedicated to her roll.

Her detail-oriented skills has saved the agency thousands of dollars but what contributed to her winning the Director’s Spotlight, and what makes her a valuable asset to the agency is her willingness to assist her fellow colleagues and taking on new and challenging projects. We are very proud to have her part of our RHA team! Congratulations Diane!

RHA’s March Directors Spotlight winner is Te’Airia Robinson! As a new member of our Leadership team, Te’Airia currently performs the role of the HR generalist. With less than a year in this role, unforeseen circumstances forced Te’Airia to fulfill all duties within the HR department.

In doing so, Te’Airia has proven that tenacity, enthusiasm, and perseverance are critical components for an effective leader. Her kindness towards others and her willingness to go the extra mile is on display every day when she interacts with our employees and service providers.

Ms. Lynn Feirn has been with the Rockford Housing Authority for more than a decade. Throughout her career with RHA, Lynn has assisted hundreds of families in obtaining a quality home.

Lynn has also displayed her willingness to help others, which many of her peers have thoroughly cited.

Lynn’s dedication, motivation, and willingness to assist her fellow employees are traits deserving of the Director’s Spotlight Award for February 2021. Lynn’s initiative and commitment demonstrate consistency and resourcefulness, two fundamental core values for our agency. She is a dedicated worker whose attention to detail is most welcome. She exhibits consistency in her daily duties and is willing to take the necessary steps to ensure the success of her development and assist a colleague in need. Ms. Felice Woitynek states,

As our December recipient of the Director’s Spotlight award, Mike Murray is the epitome of a kind and caring leader. Throughout his more than 35 years with the Rockford Housing Authority, Mike has shown true compassion to his fellow workers and the clients we serve.

Mike is a self-motivated and dedicated individual who ‘s resourcefulness and leadership have benefited our residents, agency and community. Always willing to help where help is needed, his overall maintenance knowledge and proficiency has set a standard for all who follow in his footsteps. He has served our residents well, as can be seen in his efforts to provide the best quality unit for our residents.

As stated in his nomination, “Mike makes it a point to provide the residents a safe and sanitary home, he would live in himself”. “He has a vast knowledge of the job he does and treats the residents with respect.” Mike’s dedication, knowledge, and leadership demonstrates why Mike Murray is deserving of the Director’s Spotlight Award for December 2020. Ms. Lisa Olson has been a valued team member with the Rockford Housing Authority (RHA) for more than 14 years. During her time with our agency, Lisa has served our clients in several different roles, advancing through the ranks with each role, and currently serves as the Property Manager for RHA’s Scattered Sites developments as well as our non-profit, Bridge Rockford units. She is extremely dedicated and hardworking, always willing to lend a hand to fellow staff.

As stated by her peers, even when faced with a staffing shortfall, Lisa is there to assist when asked, and she always treats everyone with the same respect and positive attitude. “She juggles a lot as the manager of Scattered Sites, and I’m so impressed by how she holds it all together. She is a great example for all who work at RHA and plays a crucial role in our overall success.” Lisa exemplifies RHA’s core values, which is evident in her caring, respectful, and professional leadership of her site. “She is a person of Integrity, who is willing to hold herself accountable.” Lisa genuinely embodies the company’s spirit and our core values in everything she does, and she inspires us all to do the same!

Mr. Robert Lojanica has been part of the Rockford Housing Authority team for more than four years. During this short time, Robert has made a considerable and measurable impact on our agency.  Which is evident through his continued resourcefulness and dedication to his work, both of which benefits our staff, residents, and community.  “Simply put Robert is willing to step up to provide excellent customer service to our residents, co-workers, and vendors.”, states Chuck Doyle, Physical Asset and Quality Assurance Manager. Robert routinely accepts assignments, some extremely challenging without complaint.  

Mr. Lojanica has served our agency as an Inventory Specialist for our entire maintenance department; recently transitioning in the Quality Compliance Inspector for our HCV and LIPH departments. In this role, Robert preforms HQS inspections for HCV clients/landlords, and UPCS Inspections for our LIPH developments. Robert is the perfect detail-oriented type of person to successfully fulfill this role. In doing so, Robert is a critical partner to our compliance team, ensuring that all HCV properties are maintained and inspected in compliance with HUD regulation, and he assists our property management and maintenance teams prepare their properties for HUD inspection.

Always willing to accept special projects, Robert is distributing face coverings to all RHA residents ages two and above. As he always does, Robert has taken this task a step above, at delivery, Robert is performing a quick safety inspection and speaking with residents regarding any maintenance concerns and reporting any findings to the property management team.

Troy is a self-motivated and enthusiastic  employee who holds himself accountable and instinctively recognizes the needs of our properties and clients and addresses those needs without hesitation. Throughout his 28-year career, Troy has served in several maintenance roles, but none more critical than that of the mentoring of our maintenance trainees.

Troy’s overall maintenance knowledge, attention to detail, professionalism, and leadership skills make him the perfect coach and teacher to our maintenance team. Through his guidance, our maintenance team has been elevated to a level rarely matched by others, providing the best quality unit and customer service to our clients. We are proud to have Troy as a member of our team, and we look forward to his future at RHA.

The winner for June Director’s Spotlight goes to Eunice Green! Eunice is a great asset to the RHA team, she is respectful, kind, and hardworking. Eunice is very dedicated to the Lifeforce Development Institute students along with all the residents she comes in contact with. She is always ready to help the next resident, student or co-worker that needs it.

Ms. Green takes on any challenge and never complains. Eunice demonstrates all of the RHA core values and beliefs but really exemplifies being resourceful and caring about her job and the people involved. Congratulations to Ms. Eunice Green!

RHA DIRECTORS SPOTLIGHT MAY 2020

As the Physical Asset, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance Manager, Chuck Doyle wears several hats throughout each day. Although none more crucial than that of “Safety Manager.” Although this is an unofficial role, Chuck takes it upon himself to ensure all staff is equipped with the safety gear needed to provide comfort and peace of mind, while performing their duties.

Always going out of his way to personally check on staff throughout the agency, and address any safety concerns someone may have. Since entering this pandemic, Chuck has continued to report to work daily to inspect properties, order safety equipment, and address all maintenance emergencies, tirelessly and without complaint.

We are proud to announce our April 2020, Director’s Spotlight winner, Mr. Elias Soria!

Throughout his 20 + career at RHA as a Family Self-Sufficiency Specialist, Elias has always stepped outside of his responsibilities to lend a helping hand where needed, and he always does so with a “positive attitude and joking spirit.” The important role that Elias plays in RHA’s team is assisting each person in FSS with a plan that helps them reach their goals for the next five years.

He has helped many individuals throughout his time with RHA and continues to do so even working remotely. Knowing that his team is currently facing material and capacity challenges to safely provide essential services to our most vulnerable populations, our children, and our elderly, Elias is quick to joke or utter a quick poem to lift the spirits of his coworkers and the RHA residents. Elias has hopes to introduce “an open mic contest with inspiring residents who love to write as a motivational outlet in their lives”.

His continued dedication to the well-being and financial security of our residents, his passion toward his job, and his devotion to his RHA family, demonstrates our Vision, Mission, and Core Values in a manner that is unparalleled.

RHA DIRECTORS SPOTLIGHT MARCH 2020

First Award presented to Linda Dorsey-Tillman, Procurement, Contracts and Section 3 Compliance Manager for March 2020. When the COVID-19 directive by Gov. Pritzker was announced for social distancing, Linda, in a 48-hour time period, deployed 20 laptops for use by RHA staff members to work from home. This included wiping the computers clean, loading all necessary software and enabling the computers to allow staff to continue their daily duties, while staying home.

She also configured work related cell phones, many with hotspots, for employees who had previously not been issued an RHA phone, with hotspots needed by those who did not have internet service at home. Linda was awarded $100.00 for her outstanding efforts during this unprecedented time and given a Door Dash gift certificate for lunch since attending lunch at restaurants currently is unavailable. We are so very proud of Linda and her service to RHA to allow us to maintain the level of service that we do, and imparting her commitment to our core values.

This video is a testimonial to Linda for the contributions and achievements she has made to not only RHA but the community as well. While helping the RHA team she also helped the community in making sure that RHA staff were capable of working from home and available to residents who rely on them.
