As you may be aware, the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) is administering the Coronavirus Relief funds allocated to the State of Illinois via the CARES Act and has developed the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERA) to support Illinois tenants unable to pay their rent due to a COVID-19-related loss of income.
Unfortunately, families/individuals currently receiving rental assistance, including subsidized Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) assistance, are not eligible. Landlords who participate in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program who accept IHDA ERA funding may jeopardize their Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract and may be required to return any funds received.
