Digital Inclusion Summer Associate

Are you looking to change the world through becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA? Improve the future of children living in public housing by unlocking 21stcentury opportunities through ConnectHome. Be a champion for narrowing the “digital divide” for low-income families by connecting them to high-speed Internet access, affordable devices, and equipping them with digital literacy skills. By coordinating a community’s ConnectHome efforts, you will help eliminate the “homework gap” for K-12 students and empower families with the tools for economic success.

ConnectHome Digital Inclusion Coordinators will work directly with residents to inform them of available resources and engage with local partners to develop sustainable, tailored solutions to each community’s needs. Placements are available with 14 Public Housing Agencies nationwide through a partnership between the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), AmeriCorps and Siena College. Click here for a direct link to the Job post.

Your Role:
The families you serve will access invaluable digital literacy skills for succeeding in the 21st century, and you’ll gain the skills of grant writing, community organizing, and volunteer recruitment. As a Digital Inclusion Coordinator, you’ll receive training to effectively:

·         Apply for grants related to digital inclusion
·         Develop and implement a plan for computer and internet training for HUD assisted residents
·         Identify un-connected HUD assisted residents and conduct outreach to provide information about low-cost internet access
·         Create partnerships to obtain free/low cost computers and tablets
·         Coordinate internet life skills training opportunities (homework, college access, job searches)
