Everyday Safety Starts at Home

At Rockford Housing Authority, our Maintenance Department plays a vital role in keeping homes safe, comfortable, and functional. But did you know that residents can also help prevent common issues with a few proactive habits?

At Rockford Housing Authority, safety is a shared responsibility and it begins with small, everyday choices. While our Maintenance Department is always ready to respond, there’s a lot that residents can do to help keep their homes safe, efficient, and comfortable all year long.

Our Maintenance Team is dedicated to responding to urgent work orders and resolving repair needs as quickly as possible. But here’s something you might not know: many of the calls we receive are for issues that could be prevented with simple, routine care.

From leaky faucets to appliance malfunctions, some of the most common problems stem from habits that go unnoticed until they become bigger issues. That’s why everyday maintenance matters.

Small Habits with a Big Payoff

The good news? You don’t have to be a maintenance expert to protect your home. A few easy routines can go a long way:

  • Check smoke detectors monthly to ensure batteries are working.
  • Keep heating vents unblocked by furniture or clutter.
  • Report small leaks early before they become major plumbing concerns.
  • Clear the area around stoves and electrical outlets to reduce fire hazards.
  • Keep emergency exits and hallways clear for easy access in case of emergency.

These simple actions support your safety and reduce the need for emergency work orders helping our team focus on more urgent issues when they arise.

At RHA, we believe strong communities thrive on shared responsibility. When residents report concerns early, it helps prevent damage, reduce risks, and protect everyone’s well-being.
