From Garden to Table: Growing Change in Rockford

Community-grown produce and education from Farmer’s Rising Urban Ag Program

The Farmer’s Rising Urban Agriculture Program is transforming access to healthy food in Rockford. Led by Program Director Ted Snowden, it grows and distributes fresh produce, fosters small businesses, and builds connections through education and community events.

A Mission Rooted in Access

The Urban Ag Program began with a clear mission: provide Blackhawk Courts residents with access to fresh fruits and vegetables. In many urban areas, healthy produce is hard to come by this initiative ensures that local families get the nutrition they need, right where they live.

CSA: Community Support & Seasonal Flavor

One standout feature is the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model. Community members, both within and beyond the neighborhood, can buy seasonal produce directly from the program. Everything is organically grown and picked at peak ripeness unlike grocery store items that are often shipped long distances.

Education & Togetherness

Beyond farming, the program offers education. From cooking demos to food-based community gatherings, residents come together to learn, eat, and build friendships. With 4–5 events every summer, and partnerships with schools and local groups, learning and engagement go hand-in-hand.

How to Join the Movement

The program is open to all, and your support brings fresh food and fresh opportunities to the heart of the community.
