HUD GRANT TO HELP IMPROVE RHA PROPERTIES

ROCKFORD (WREX) -Thanks to millions of dollars of grant money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, local and public housing in Rockford will be improved. HUD allocates a certain amount of grant money to local housing authorities each year to make improvements. This year, a total of $120 million was distributed throughout the state and the Rockford Housing Authority is looking to receive anywhere from $2.3 million to $2.5 million, the largest grant it has ever received. “This year, the money will go towards security cameras for our low rises, at our disable-supportive sites,” RHA CEO Ron Clewer said. “We will do some kitchen upgrades in some of our facilities, there will be some new roofs that come with that as well as driveway and sidewalk work.” A start date for those improvements has not yet been set.
