A Mom with a Mission
Laprica Wilder, originally from Elgin, Illinois, joined Rockford Housing Authority’s Jobs Plus program with one goal: to create a better future for herself and her children. “I wanted something different,” she shares. Becoming a Community Coach was her first step toward that change and now she’s inspiring others to do the same.
Feeling Stuck and Unseen
Many residents want more for their lives but don’t know where to begin. Laprica understands that hesitation. “Sometimes people don’t want to talk,” she says. “But if I can reach one person, I’ve done my job.” Fear of judgment or not knowing where to turn can keep people from accessing life-changing resources.
Listening First, Then Leading
Laprica believes empowerment starts with communication. She goes door-to-door with flyers, but her impact goes beyond paper. “It’s not just about jobs it’s about helping people see their potential.” Now preparing to join the next Lifeforce Development Institute cohort, she’s leading by example while building a new path for herself.
Say Yes to Opportunity
“If someone wants to do better, I’m here to support them,” Laprica says. Her advice to future Community Coaches? “Just talk. Be present. Some people need to know someone believes in them.” RHA offers programs like Jobs Plus and LDI but residents have to take that first step.
Laprica’s journey proves that with the right support and a little courage, transformation is possible. She’s not just building her future she’s helping others build theirs. Want to take that next step? Connect with RHA’s Human Services team today and explore how you can grow, thrive, and lead.
