Myth vs. Fact: The public housing proposal for Rockford's New Towne Drive

ROCKFORD — A proposed Rockford Housing Authority and Gorman & Co. low-income housing development on South New Towne Drive is attracting significant community attention.
More than 1,000 residents have signed physical and online petitions expressing disapproval of the plan, which would involve building 70 units of replacement housing for west-side Fairgrounds Valley residents in an east-side neighborhood.
But how many of the concerns are grounded in fact? Gorman and the Housing Authority are hosting a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Gregory Elementary School to answer questions.
