In a ringing call to action, the Rockford Housing Authority is urging residents in Rockford and Winnebago County to leverage the invaluable resources provided by My Pantry Express. With a commitment to empowering individuals and fostering safe and nurturing environments, RHA recognizes the vital role that initiatives like My Pantry Express play in addressing the pressing issue of food insecurity within the community.

My Pantry Express, a groundbreaking solution launched in 2019 by the Northern Illinois Food Bank, has rapidly evolved into a beacon of hope for families struggling to access basic needs. The platform facilitates a seamless online grocery shopping experience, allowing users to select pick-up or delivery options from a network of food pantries. What sets My Pantry Express apart is its commitment to inclusivity – no qualifications or referrals are required, and user privacy is meticulously respected, with only minimal information collected.

“We encourage all members of our community who find themselves in need to explore the services offered by My Pantry Express,” emphasizes Laura Synder, CEO, of the Rockford Housing Authority. “This initiative goes beyond providing mere sustenance; it offers a comprehensive range of essentials, from food items to clothing, toiletries, and baby products. It’s not just about filling plates; it’s about bridging gaps and fostering a sense of security and dignity.”

The success story of My Pantry Express is evident in its remarkable growth. Starting with four locations and strategic partnerships with major retailers such as Walmart and Goodwill, the initiative now serves families in over 18 sites across Northern Illinois including Rockford and Winnebago county. Since its inception, My Pantry Express has processed over 55,000 orders, demonstrating its profound impact on the community.

Against the backdrop of Winnebago County’s population of approximately 283,119 individuals and a median household income of $55,310, RHA underscores the importance of community support. “For those facing uncertainty about their next meal, My Pantry Express is a lifeline. It’s organizations like these that enable us to fulfill our mission of empowering individuals and creating safe, nurturing environments,” Ms. Synder states.

The Rockford Housing Authority believes that by rallying together, the Rockford community can ensure that no one goes hungry, reinforcing the spirit of solidarity that defines Winnebago County.

The collaborative efforts between organizations, retailers, and the community at large exemplify the strength that emerges when individuals come together to uplift and support one another in times of need.
