ROCKFORD HOUSING AUTHORITY, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE ACCEPTING APPLICAITONS

ROCKFORD, December 15, 2017 – The Rockford Housing Authority Workforce Development Institute (WDI) is now accepting applications for its classes to be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. start date Jan. 9th in the Blackhawk Empowerment Center of the Rockford Housing Authority/ 330 15th Ave.

RHA CEO Larry Williams, created, developed and implemented the WDI in 2013. He sees it as an important program that focuses on employ-ability skills and specialized training that he hopes will give residents skills they need to gain employment. This 8-week course is a hands-on 72-hour curriculum that addresses employment barriers.

The WDI seeks to serve the unemployed through the delivery of targeted soft skills including but not limited to: positive attitude and behavior, adaptability, responsibility, professionalism, problem-solving, communication and teamwork.

Those who successfully complete of the program will earn a Certificate of Workforce Readiness that is recognized by local employers in addition to a 90-day follow-up as well as a career makeover. Classes consist of 12-15 participants, and students must be 17 or older and willing to sign a participation agreement. Applications are available online www.rockfordha.org and at all RHA sites.
