For the thirtieth year, Rock Valley College honored students for working to achieve their General Education Development (GED) equivalency. RVC held a ceremony Thursday for at the Physical Education Center on its main campus to honor over 500 RVC students who earned their GED within the last year. Rockford Housing CEO Ron Clewer addressed the graduates. Rock Valley’s GED and Basic Skills program serves about 1,600 adults who have reading levels ranging from fourth grade to college entry and above. RVC says the GED is given in Spanish, French, and Braille around the world, and its passing standards reflect the top 60 percent of what graduating seniors know and can do. That means 40 percent of high school seniors currently getting their diplomas would not pass the exam. GED and high school graduates earn an average of $9,400 more each year than those who do not complete school. This article is available at WREX here]]>
