We recently worked with a resident who had been applying to jobs consistently but wasn’t hearing back. She was putting in the effort, showing up, and doing what she could, but it still felt like she wasn’t getting anywhere. Instead of stopping, she reached out for support.
This is something we see often. Residents are trying, but the process can feel unclear. Sometimes it’s a resume that doesn’t fully reflect their experience. Other times it’s interview preparation, confidence, or balancing responsibilities once a job starts. It’s rarely one major issue, it’s usually a combination of smaller things that make progress harder to see.
Through our FSS program, Elias Soria, FSS Program Manager, and Laura Martinez, FSS Specialist, sat down with her and broke things into practical steps. Alongside Amy Byrd and Breanna Bailey, they helped her adjust her resume, prepare for interviews, and build a routine she could realistically maintain. The focus wasn’t just on getting hired, it was on making sure she was ready to keep that job and grow from it.
Within a few weeks, things began to shift. She started getting responses, felt more prepared in interviews, and eventually secured a position. More importantly, she had a plan in place to stay consistent. That’s what we aim for at RHA. Without support, it’s easy to fall into a cycle of trying and starting over. With support, progress becomes steady and sustainable.
At RHA, we are here to work with you, not just give direction. If you’re trying to move forward, we’re ready to help you take the next step. Through FSS, participants can set employment goals, work toward education or certification opportunities, improve credit, and for eligible households build escrow savings as earned income increases
