Women of Influence Event

On March 20th, the Rockford Housing Authority, in collaboration with YouthBuild Rockford, hosted an inspiring event that brought stories, strength, and purpose into one room. “Women of Influence” was more than a panel—it was a celebration of women who serve their communities every day, often behind the scenes, and the impact of their lived experiences and leadership.

Real Women, Real Conversations

The panel featured five dynamic women: LaShima Grosskopf, Ericka Potter, Claudia Consuelos, Anisha Grimmett, and Emily Walker—each with unique journeys, yet all united by their commitment to serving others. As they shared the challenges they’ve faced in the community service sector, it became clear that passion often grows from personal struggle. Each story included a pivotal moment—when they chose purpose over comfort, community over self.—each with unique journeys, yet all united by their commitment to serving others. Youth Voices Join the Dialogue

With over 50 attendees, especially from the 12 YouthBuild Rockford members who showed up eager to learn. The YouthBuild Policy Council took the mic with confidence, asking thoughtful questions about leadership, resilience, and advocacy. Their engagement turned the panel into a powerful, two-way, multi-generational conversation.

Bridging Futures with Connection

Students from The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign initiative and recent (soon-to-be) Lifeforce Development Program graduates attended as well, seizing the opportunity to network one-on-one with panelists. These moments—where young leaders connected personally with experienced changemakers—were among the event’s most meaningful takeaways.

The Women of Influence event proved what happens when powerful voices are given a platform—and when young leaders are there to listen. RHA and YouthBuild Rockford created a space not just for stories, but for connection, mentorship, and momentum that will carry far beyond March 20th.
