A Knock That Opened a New Door
Jamal hadn’t planned on that Tuesday being different. But when a Jobs Plus case manager knocked on his door, the conversation that followed set something powerful in motion. What started with questions about employment turned into a dialogue about financial security, future planning, and the reality of what happens when a program ends. That’s the heart of Jobs Plus. It’s not just about finding work—it’s about finding footing.
What Is the Jobs Plus Program?
Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Jobs Plus Program supports public housing residents by offering job training, employment services, and financial incentives—without increasing rent immediately due to rising income. For residents, it’s a chance to grow professionally and financially while building a safety net.
But as the program nears its final phase, preparation is key. Case managers are helping participants understand exactly how much they’ve saved and what changes to expect once Jobs Plus sunsets.
Opening Eyes and Bank Accounts
The work being done now is deeply personal. During in-home visits and neighborhood meetings, case managers are presenting customized savings reports to participants. Many residents are seeing for the first time the rent relief they’ve received through the program. That information is proving invaluable as families begin budgeting for what comes next.
This kind of transparency empowers people. It replaces fear with knowledge and worry with action.
Investing in the Next Generation
The mission doesn’t stop with adults. In partnership with the ROSS Program, Jobs Plus is co-hosting a Youth Resource Fair this summer. Designed for students navigating school, work, or mental health challenges, the event will connect young people with local mentors, counselors, and organizations—all at no cost.
From one-on-one guidance to interactive booths, the Youth Fair is a place for dreams to begin.
