Did You Know the Rockford Housing Authority Owns more than 300 Scattered Site Units throughout the City of Rockford

Rockford Housing Authority owns 300 scattered sites, which are houses and duplexes “scattered” throughout the City of Rockford. The current value of these homes and duplexes is over $19.7 million. RHA strives to make our scattered site program an asset to not only our residents but also the neighborhood and greater community.

We do this by investing in the physical development so that the units are not identifiable as public housing; they fit well into the neighborhood and create a sense of pride for the tenant. We also invest in the tenant by offering support and programing to prepare them for the increased responsibility of taking care of a home, being a good neighbor, and becoming an active member of the neighborhood and community.

On all sides of the city housing debate, there’s agreement: well-maintained, occupied properties are an important part of the community and when “problem properties” emerge and persist, they affect entire neighborhoods. Tenants in scattered site housing feel welcome in their new homes and prefer their new neighborhoods, where they expect their children to benefit from safer surroundings and better access to neighborhood schools.

They are most often located near transit, with easy access to shopping, parks, schools, and neighborhood services that meet the needs of residents.

Scattered Site Housing providing low-income assisted housing in areas away from economically depressed, minority concentrated, inner-city neighborhoods has been a central concern of housing specialists, planners, civil rights activists, and other advocates for the inadequately sheltered for the past four decades.

The Rockford Housing Authority is committed to serving the citizens of our community as a consistent and reliable source of assistance for affordable housing; this agency has focused its efforts on creating housing options at a variety of income levels so every person in the Rockford area may find a place to call home.

Please Note for privacy and confidentiality of the neighborhoods, the homes, and duplexes are illustrative.
